Like its ancestor from which it split, the needlehead still feeds primarily on salt and salt-filled organisms. Unlike its ancestor, its cells have now specialized into three different types, the head, body segments, and tail. Each contains its own nucleus but is controlled by the head, with the upper "brain" cell controlling movement while the lower "brain" cell controls the functions of the other cells. When reproducing, a miniature copy will grow and then drop off the main body. Each segment is connected by soft, vulnerable sub-segment that is necessary for flexibility, and is filled with tiny receptors used to sense the electrical byproduct created by the movement of other cells.
